My virtual world story

I think I started playing on virtual worlds in 2010, when I was 9 years old. My first virtual world was probably Pixie Hollow, based on  Disney Fairies. I was fascinated by the concept of playing in real-time and seeing the actions other players did live. I loved that, and kept trying to explain it to different people I knew. I grew more attached to the game, and although I really wanted a membership, I found ways to thrive without one.

Now, here are the stories of all the notable virtual worlds I played...

Moshi Monsters -I'm quite sure I started playing around Autumn 2010. I instantly fell in love, and chose to adopt a 'Katsuma' because I thought they were calm, and I liked them in general. I actually kind of regret that now... but what can we do?  I loved playing the game, and had great fun on it. I played for months... had a couple of memberships here and there, then I drifted away from the game for a bit at some point in 2011. In early 2012, I played for a little more, but then stopped playing. Although I do not play as frequently anymore, I still do check back on the game that was a part of my childhood.... and I don't want to starve my poor Katsuma. Old Moshi Monsters was very different from today. Only members could send gifts, and mystery gifts didn't exist. The only gifts that could be sent were small video clips, which are now ''Video Gifts''. Non-members could not access Gift Island, which was obviously a little different. Many places on the map didn't exist, for example the Moshi TV studio and Observatory. There was a moshling called Lady GooGoo who I loved and had, especially the little song she did when clicked xD However, Lady GaGa sued MindCandy and she was removed, replaced by Baby Rox. There were fewer moshlings, and the little gadget panel in your monster's room was different. Those hints that now sometimes appear in your garden to help you get a moshling didn't exist. There were other changes, but I can't think of any right now.

Pixie Hollow I loved this game, and although it was terribly boring without a membership I still admired it. Pretty much everything was members-only, from having an 'animal friend' to wearing something other than the arrival suit. The game was actually fairer towards members in its early stages, but not terribly fair. By the time I joined, October 14 2010, non-members were restricted to the arrival suit- a white top, skirt and shoes, and a belt in the 'talent colour' (which in my case was blue). They could also buy another suit, a slightly darker white, which was a top, skirt, belt and shoes. That was it. Unless, of course, the player used codes (could be found on the internet) which unlocked a yellow suit which I think looked like the clothing that could be bought by non-members, with a few accessories. There were more codes for everyone available, but that was before I joined. Everything was extremely limited. Eventually, the shop selling clothes for non-members was removed, leaving them with even fewer options. On August 18 2013, a notice came out announcing Pixie Hollow was going to shut down on September 19 2013. Everyone was given a free membership, and I enjoyed it a lot. Yes, I did visit that game even after I quit at some point in... 2010/2011. The game is no longer available.

Stardoll Not exactly sure when I made my first account, but it was somewhere in Autumn 2010. I found about it while I was in Primary School and playing around on the 'Beat Bullying' website we had to go on in computer class. I liked the sound of it, and when I joined I loved it. I then forgot my first account and made a new one on December 1 2010. I collected tons of free items with the help of a blog, and before I knew it I had tons of clothes and decorations. I still sometimes visit to see how the website changed. I totally loved Stardoll, and often talked to people I knew about it. I never had a membership, though. It was different when I joined. The only currency was 'Stardollars', and member items were marked with a little star. Those achievement things didn't exist, and some hair/facial features that were member-only are now for everyone. Levels didn't exist, only the amount of Starpoints you had did. There were many other changes, too, but I can't list them all now.
My room used to be crammed with items but I cleared it up lol.

Panfu  I joined with my first account... I don't even know when. Definitely at some point in 2010, probably around November/December. I know because I vividly remember the Christmas celebration, me eagerly waiting to get back on and explore more of Panfu, so I was definitely around by then. My account got banned for no reason in 2011, in Summer. I remember being extremely sad, and complaining to my mum. I wrote but  I never got my account back, so furiously I started again on a new account. I loved the website, but then again never had a membership. The site is quite dead now- the last post on the blog was in May about how 'Max and Ella' (the main game characters) are on tour, and there has been no implication regarding their return date. Consequently, there have been no updates lately. I hope they will be back any time soon.
